Troubleshooting
Fix sign-in problems and common errors when using VYG from an AI assistant.
The browser doesn't open when I connect
Your client should open a browser window for the VYG sign-in. If it doesn't, look in the client's output for a sign-in URL and open it yourself. Some environments, such as SSH sessions and containers, cannot open a browser.
"unauthorized" errors after it worked before
Your sign-in may have expired and failed to refresh. Disconnect and connect again:
- Claude: Settings → Connectors, disconnect VYG, then connect again.
- Claude Code:
claude mcp remove vyg, then add it again (see Claude Code). If you added the server under an older name such asliverecover, remove that name. - Cursor: remove the
vygserver in Cursor Settings → MCP and add it again.
I connected to mcp.vyg.app or cdp-mcp.vyg.app
Those addresses were retired on 2026-09-26. Change the server URL to https://api.vyg.app/mcp and sign in
again. See the migration guide.
"insufficient_scope" errors
The connection doesn't have permission for that tool:
- Signed in: your client may have asked for a narrower set of scopes, such as
mcp:read, which leaves out tools that make changes. Reconnect and request the permissions needed for the tool. Admin tools, such as Shopify writes, are only granted to brand admins. - Using an API key: the key doesn't carry the tool's scope, or the tool is sign-in only. See the tool catalog.
- Customer data tools: Check that your store is connected and your account includes customer data features. Ask your VYG account manager.
"Brand not found" or the wrong brand
Each connection is tied to the brand you picked at sign-in. Reconnect and pick the right brand.
Tools return empty results
- Check the brand you picked at sign-in.
- For reports, try an explicit date range.
- New segments show no members until their first evaluation, which runs within 15 minutes of saving. Your segments then refresh every 15 minutes; most built-in lifecycle segments refresh hourly or every 4 hours.
A tool I used before is missing
Some tools were renamed on 2026-09-26, and the old names stopped working on 2026-09-27. Call the current
name instead. See tool names. The Shopify developer documentation tools are
listed only with ?tools=developer; see Shopify tools.
